Fix these first

  1. 1. Reviews on product pages

No reviews or ratings visible on the product page we checked.

Add a reviews app and start collecting reviews; social proof is one of the biggest conversion levers on product pages.

  2. 2. Descriptive product copy

The product description has only 34 words.

AI assistants quote what's written: describe materials, sizes, use cases and who it's for in plain sentences in the product description. Details kept only in tabs or metafields often don't reach the product's structured data.

  3. 3. Brand linked to its profiles

No Organization data on the homepage to identify the brand.

Add social profile links in your theme settings (most themes output them as sameAs), so AI engines tie your store to your brand's other pages.

What the audit checks

We load the store's homepage, one product page, its policy pages, robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap, the same way a shopper, Google or an AI assistant would, then run 35 checks:

  • SEO basics: homepage title and meta description, a single H1, canonical URL, social sharing image, brand structured data, page language, sitemap and robots.txt.
  • AI search (GEO): whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude's search crawlers are allowed in robots.txt, whether the homepage has text crawlers can read without JavaScript, product identifiers (brand, GTIN, SKU) and descriptive copy in structured data, FAQ content, brand profiles linked with sameAs, and an llms.txt file.
  • Product page: Product and Offer structured data, reviews and star ratings, trust badges near the buy button, image alt text and meta description.
  • Trust and policies: refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages, and an easy way to contact you.
  • Speed: server response time, HTML weight, the number of third-party script domains and render-blocking scripts, and lazy-loaded images.
  • Growth stack: whether the store captures emails or SMS and offers upsells, based on the apps we can detect.

Shopify store audit checklist

Want to check by hand? These are the items worth ten minutes of your time:

  1. Your homepage title says what you sell, in 30–65 characters.
  2. Each product has a search listing description, and every image has alt text.
  3. Product pages show reviews, and the ratings appear in Google as stars.
  4. Refund, shipping, privacy and terms policies are published in Settings › Policies.
  5. Trust badges for secure checkout, shipping and returns sit next to Add to cart.
  6. You've uninstalled apps you don't use, and checked their code was removed from the theme.
  7. Your sitemap is submitted in Google Search Console.
  8. robots.txt doesn't block OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Claude-SearchBot, so AI assistants can recommend you.
  9. You capture emails from visitors who don't buy on their first visit.

What a quick audit can't see

Anything behind checkout: thank-you page offers, post-purchase surveys, checkout customizations. Real-browser speed metrics (Core Web Vitals) also need a tool like PageSpeed Insights. And we check one product page, not your whole catalog.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Shopify store audit check?
35 checks in six areas: SEO basics (title, meta description, headings, structured data, sitemap), AI search or GEO (AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt, text readable without JavaScript, product identifiers and descriptions, FAQ, brand profiles, llms.txt), the product page (Product schema, reviews, trust badges, image alt text), trust and policies (refund, shipping, privacy, terms, contact), speed (response time, page weight, third-party and render-blocking scripts) and growth stack (email capture, upsells).
How is the score calculated?
Each check passes, warns or fails, weighted by impact. Categories are averaged into a score out of 100: SEO and product page count for 20% each, AI search (GEO), trust, speed and growth stack for 15% each. Checks we couldn't run are left out rather than counted against you.
Which product page do you check?
The first product returned by the store's public product feed, usually the most recent one, or the first product linked from the homepage. The page we checked is linked in the report.
Is this a full SEO audit?
It's a fast audit of the homepage and one product page, covering the issues that matter most for a Shopify store. It doesn't crawl every page or measure Core Web Vitals in a real browser; use Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights for that.
Can I audit a competitor's store?
Yes. The audit only reads public pages, like any visitor. It's a quick way to compare your store's basics with the stores you compete with.
Is it free?
Yes, with no account. Results for a store are cached for 24 hours.
